The memoir of the slave Olaudah Equiano, is a great point to start. He offers a riveting account of the brutality on the slave ships and on arriving in Barbados. Below is a sample from the site. Olaudah was familiar with slavery from a very early age. He recalls that as a child in Africa, he and his brother or sisters were constantly checking for wandering rogues that abducted kids . One time, when his parents were away, he identified a rogue character and alerted the neighbors, who subdued the rogue . However, later rogue abductors recorded him and his sis and took them on a lengthy journey to locations far off.
