Washington Black and the Barbados 1661 Code

Behind balloons and get away stories, there was the 1661 Barbados Slave Code. It helped specify slavery in law and made Barbados a model for Britain's Atlantic colonies. Our 56-second video sets the scene rapidly, then the function unloads it: why Barbados is called a very first servant society, how sugar cash and legal control interacted, and where to search for proof on the ground. We also note the Halifax connection and indicate everyday voices that make complex any single version of events. The page links to maps, readings, and conversation triggers, making it beneficial for both casual readers and teachers alike.

Enjoy first, then explore the locations and people behind it.
